Description

♦ Yerba Santa Smudge Bundle ♦

Yerba Santa, meaning “sacred herb” or “holy weed“, is a sticky-leafed evergreen native to the southwestern United States that possesses many healing properties.

Traditionally used as a smudge or incense for protection and setting boundaries, Yerba Santa has also been used for love, purification, growth, empowerment and beauty, and the release of emotional pain stored in the heart chakra. It has an uplifting scent. Traditionally used herbally in the Southwest, for respiratory issues.

Yerba Santa was highly valued by many California tribes including the Salinan, Ohlone, Miwok, Pomo, and Yokuts who continue to use it for various medicinal purposes. The Spanish who came to early California were so impressed with the plant that they gave it the name Yerba Santa, meaning holy plant.

The leaves, stems and flowers are used (Heizer & Elsasser 1980). They are either eaten or made into a tea, decoction, or poultice. The flowers and the bitter, aromatic leaves may be used fresh or dried. The leaves and flowers were made into a “bitter or sweetish-soapy” tasting tea that was drunk to relieve headaches and other symptoms of tuberculosis. Infusions of Yerba santa leaves and flowers were used to treat fevers, coughs, colds, stomachaches asthma, rheumatism pleurisy, and to purify the blood.

Smudging has long been used to connect to the spiritual realm or enhance intuition. For healers and laypeople in traditional cultures, burning sage is used to achieve a healing state — or to solve or reflect upon spiritual dilemmas.

Smudging may also be used as a ritual tool to rid yourself — or your space — of negativity. This includes past traumas, bad experiences, or negative energies from others. This may help you establish a positive environment for meditation or another ritual. Choosing to sit and let go of negative thoughts in a ritual like this sets your intention and dedication to self-improvement. (Tradition suggests that smudging can literally lift one’s spirits to banish negativity. Some research supports this. A 2014 study documented white sage as an important traditional remedy for treating anxiety, depression, and mood disorders in certain cultures.) So, if burning sage can lift one’s mood, it could also be a great ally against stress.

Some research supports certain health benefits of sage, such as antimicrobial properties and enhanced alertness. White sage (Salvia apiana) has antimicrobial properties. This means it keeps infectious bacteria, viruses, and fungi at bay.

Smudging has been traditionally used to safeguard against negativity that could interfere with sleep. So it could improve the symptoms of insomnia! Tip: Try our Lavender Sage Smudge Wand for sleep issues!

It has also been shown to repel insects.

⇒ Burning sage is thought to release negative ions. This is said to help neutralize positive ions.
Common positive ions are allergens like:
pet dander
pollution
dust
mold

If this is the case, burning sage may be a blessing for those with asthma, allergies, bronchitis, and other respiratory conditions. But inhaling the smoke during the smudging can aggravate it. Just wait until the smoke clears before spending time in the room.

With ALL this information, and the potential benefits, why not try some!?!?

♠ How To Use:

Burn your Sage bundle and let the smoke permeate and cleanse. You can also waft the smoke around the space with a feather so that the smoke cleanses the entire room.

When you are done, snuff out the fire against an abalone shell, cast iron bowl, or ash tray of sorts and save for later use.

***Please make sure that a smudge bundle is COMPLETELY out before leaving the area unattended***

Burning Instructions:

Light the wand from the top end and place the burning wand on a safe surface.

***Keep out of reach of children, animals and flammable material.***

Setting Your Intention:

While you are smudging your room or your jewelry, make sure that you keep a strong and focused intention in mind.

♦ Cleansing Your Gem Stones and Jewelry ♦

Your gemstones will work best when they are cleared and cleansed. So, cleanse and activate them often!

How to cleanse your jewelry:

Steadily hold your jewelry in the smoke of a burning Sage stick or Palo Santo stick until your piece becomes still.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
